Learn with Tuli Tuli: let’s save the turtles from plastic!
Thanks to Cucù racconta: la tartaruga marina we’ve discovered that nowadays all species of sea turtles are, sadly, at risk of extinction. Among all the threats they have to face each day, the pollution of the oceans caused by humans and plastic is by far the most serious. Turtles often eat abandoned plastic bottles and bags, mistaking them for food, or they end up being trapped in them, and that puts their lives in great danger. That’s why it’s essential that each one of us starts taking care of our planet, by producing less plastic and learning how to recycle it: only then, all together, we’ll be able to protect turtles and other sea animals, becoming true guardians of nature, just like Cucù! So, here are some simple tips, inspired by the famous “Three R’s” method (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), to put into practice each day to cut down on plastic use:
A water-bottle for the environment
Instead of buying a new plastic bottle every time you’re thirsty, ask your parents for a useful and colorful reusable water-bottle. That way you can fill it with fresh tap water and save a ton of plastic every day!
Eco-friendly birthdays
When you’re planning a birthday party with your friends, try to avoid disposable plastic products. Instead, choose cups, cutlery, straws and plates that you can easily wash and reuse. You can also find many products made from recycled or biodegradable materials, which are less polluting because they can be easily “eaten” and broken down by bacteria and fungi. That’s how you can throw a fun eco-friendly party!
Plastic-free groceries
When you go grocery shopping with your parents, remind them to avoid buying fruits and vegetables that are packaged in plastic. Instead, they can choose items that are sold loose. Then, when you leave the store, remember to use cloth bags to carry your groceries home, not the old, disposable plastic bags!
The power of recycling
Don’t forget to properly sort your waste. Everything goes in its own bin: plastic with plastic, paper with paper, and organic waste with organic waste. You can even use different colored bins to make it easy not to mix them up. This way each material can be easily recycled and transformed into something new!
Discover and share
After you’ve started putting these simple tips into practice, share everything you have learned with your family and friends. The more people you get involved, the more plastic we’ll save – and the turtles from all over the world will thank you!
