Daniele Monticelli is a professor at Tallinn University and a scholar with interests ranging from the history of translation to literary theory and semiotics. Of particular note in his work is his translation of contemporary Estonian literature for adults and children into Italian: Monticelli has edited Italian translations of Estonian novels, short stories and poems, working to bring out the linguistic and cultural specificities of Estonia without losing the fluidity and expressive power of the original text. In addition to translation, Monticelli publishes critical essays, participates in international conferences and collaborates on interdisciplinary research projects. She divides her time between academic work and promoting foreign literature in Italy, helping to raise awareness of Estonian voices that are often underrepresented in the Italian landscape.
